IBPS SO 2024 - Important Dates - Job Profile - Eligibility - Salary - Promotion - Exam Pattern - All Explained

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released notification for recruitment of Specialist Officers (SO) for year 2024.
Specialist Officers are entry level officers in the technical field of bank management, and is one of the dream jobs of every aspirant.
Here in this video, I have explained in brief about all the details of IBPS SO 2024 vacancy, along with the Job Profile, Salary and Promotion of IBPS SO.


Important Dates:
Application Begins: 01/08/2024
Application Ends: 21/08/2024
Admit Card (Prelims) Available: October last week.
Exam Date (Prelims): November (09/11/2024).
Prelims Result: November last week.
Admit Card (Mains) Available: December 1st week.
Exam Date (Mains): December (14/12/2024).
Mains Result: January 1st week.
Interview: February/March 2025.
Provisional Allotment: April 2025.

Application Fees:
General/OBC/EWS: ₹850 (including GST)
SC/ST/PwBD: ₹175 (including GST)


Vacancies:
This year a total of 896 vacancies have been advertised, which are as follows:

A. Agricultural Field Officer (AFO):

1. Punjab National Bank: 310 vacancies.
(UR: 127, EWS: 31, OBC: 83, SC: 46, ST: 23)

2. UCO Bank: 36 vacancies.
(UR: 15, EWS: 3, OBC: 9, SC: 6, ST: 3)

Total (AFO): 346 vacancies.

B. Human Resource (HR)/Personnel Officer:

1. Punjab National Bank: 15 vacancies.
(UR: 7, EWS: 1, OBC: 4, SC: 2, ST: 1)

2. Bank of India: 10 vacancies.
(UR: 6, EWS: 1, OBC: 2, ST: 1)

Total (HR): 25 vacancies.

C. Information Technology (IT) Officer:

1. Punjab National Bank: 150 vacancies.
(UR: 62, EWS: 15, OBC: 40, SC: 22, ST: 11)

2. Indian Overseas Bank: 20 vacancies.

D. Law Officer:

Educational Qualification (as on 21/08/2024):

1. Information Technology (IT) Officer:
a) 4 year Engineering/ Technology Degree in Computer Science/ Computer Applications/ Information Technology/ Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunications/Electronics & Communication/ Electronics & Instrumentation
OR;
b) Post Graduate Degree in Electronics/ Electronics & Tele-Communication/ Electronics & Communication/Electronics & Instrumentation/ Computer Science/Information Technology/ Computer Applications
OR;
c) Graduate having passed DOEACC ‘B’ level.

2. Agricultural Field Officer (AFO):
4 year Degree (graduation) in Agriculture/ Horticulture/Animal Husbandry/ Veterinary Science/ Dairy Science/ Fishery Science/ Pisciculture/ Agri. Marketing & Cooperation/ Co-operation & Banking/ Agro-Forestry/Forestry/ Agricultural Biotechnology/ B.Tech Biotechnology/ Food Science/ Agriculture Business Management/ Food Technology/ Dairy Technology/Agricultural Engineering/ Sericulture / Fisheries Engineering.

3. Rajbhasha Adhikari:
Post Graduate Degree in Hindi with English as a subject at the degree (graduation) level
OR
Post graduate degree in Sanskrit with English and Hindi as subjects at the degree (graduation) level.

4. Law Officer:
A Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) and enrolled as an advocate with Bar Council.

5. HR/Personnel Officer: Graduate and Two Years Full time Post Graduate degree or Two Years Full time Post Graduate diploma in Personnel Management/Industrial Relations/HR/ HRD/Social Work/Labour Law.

6. Marketing Officer:
Graduate and Two Years Full time MMS (Marketing)/Two Years Full time MBA (Marketing)/ Two Years Full time PGDBA / PGDBM/ PGPM/ PGDM with specialization in Marketing.


Note: The candidate must possess valid Mark-sheet/Degree Certificate that he/she is a graduate on the day he/she registers and indicate the percentage of marks obtained in Graduation while registering online.


Age Limit (as on 01/08/2024):
Minimum: 20 years
Maximum: 30 years

Age relaxation in upper age limit will be given to:
1. OBC: 3 years.
2. SC/ST: 5 years.
3. Physically Handicapped: 10 years.
4. Ex-servicemen: 5 years.
5. Persons affected by 1984 riots: 5 years.


Job Profile of a Bank SO:

A. IT Officer:

1. Data Maintenance & Support.
2. Developing and Modifying Software.
3. Queries related to ATM, Mobile Banking and Internet Banking.
4. Maintenance of the Computer System in the Bank.
5. Take care of Network Security, Processing and Antivirus Update.
6. Support the Bank’s core banking system.
7. Management of the entire IT team.

B. Agricultural Field Officer:

1. Understand the banking and core financial needs of people in rural areas.
2. Give detailed information about various loans and schemes in simple language to the people in that region.
3. Sanctioning of loans and paperwork related to it.

C. Marketing Officer:

1. Promote his Bank, bring new business deals and customers.
2. Suggest cost-effective policies to increase the Bank’s profit.
3. Handle various Marketing Channels like Newspaper, Advertisements, Banners and Promotional Events, etc.

D. Law Officer:

1. Handle legal liabilities and legal affairs of the Bank.
2. Prepare legal documents for various processes and provide assistance in the legal issues of the Bank.
3. Monitoring the errors and keeping the authenticity of the Bank Documents.

E. HR/Personnel Officer:

1. To keep a check on Human Resource activities.
2. Study different HR policies of the Bank and suggest changes, if needed.
3. Involve in the recruitment process.
4. Handle cases of misconduct and wrong-doing and consult with the superiors.

F. Rajbhasha Adhikari:

1. Proof-reading and translating all the important documents that are used or circulated in the Bank.
2. Organising training sessions for Bank personnel to promote the Official language.


Salary:
Pay Band: 36000-1490/7-46430-1740/2-49910-1990/7-63840
Basic Pay: ₹36,000
After adding Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), Learning Allowance, Special Allowance, etc, Gross salary becomes ₹62,000 approx.
Net (in-hand) salary after deduction of Contributory Pension, Medical, etc, is ₹55,000 approx.


Probation period:
Probation period of a Bank SO is of 2 years, and after its completion, they are confirmed in the service.
After confirmation, they are posted as "Assistant Branch Manager".


Is there any bond in IBPS SO?
If you leave within the Probation Period (2 years/3 years, depending on your bank), then you'll have to pay a fine of ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000 (depending on your bank) + 1 month gross salary (if notice period not served).


Career Progression:
A Bank SO is in the Junior Management Scale. After working for a minimum of 2 years at a particular level, you're eligible for departmental tests and interview for promotion to the senior level.
After 2 years of joining the bank, SO gets confirmed as a "Assistant Manager", and now his promotion takes place in his specialised department in the following order:

1. Scale-1: Assistant Manager.
2. Scale-2: Manager.
3. Scale-3: Senior Manager.
4. Scale-4: Chief Manager.
5. Scale-5: Assistant General Manager.
6. Scale-6: Deputy General Manager.
7. Scale-7: General Manager.



Exam Pattern:
There are three levels of examination: Preliminary, Mains and Interview.
Preliminary Exam (Prelims) is only for shortlisting candidates for Mains Exam.
Mains Exam is for both Shortlisting for Interview and making final merit list for service allotment.

A. Preliminary Examination:

1. For the post of Law Officer and Rajbhasha Adhikari:

a. English Language: 50 questions - 25 marks - 40 minutes sectional time.
b. Reasoning: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes sectional time.
c. General Awareness: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes sectional time.

Total: 150 questions - 125 marks - 120 minutes (2 hours).
Negative marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks).

2. For the Post of IT Officer, Agriculture Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer:

a. English Language: 50 questions - 25 marks - 40 minutes sectional time.
b. Reasoning: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes sectional time.
c. Quantitative Aptitude: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes sectional time.

Total: 150 questions - 125 marks - 120 minutes (2 hours).
Negative marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks).


B. Mains Examination:

1. For the Post of Law Officer, IT Officer, Agriculture Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer and Marketing Officer:

Professional Knowledge (of your stream): 60 questions (Objective) - 60 marks - 45 minutes.

Total Marks: 60 marks.
Total Time: 45 minutes.
Negative marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks).


2. For the post of Rajbhasha Adhikari:

a. Professional Knowledge (Objective) - 45 questions - 45 marks - 30 minutes.

b. Professional Knowledge (Descriptive) - 2 questions - 15 marks - 30 minutes.

Total Marks: 60 marks.
Total Time: 60 minutes.
Negative marking (for objective): 1/4th (-0.25 marks).


C. Interview:
• The total marks allotted for the Interview are 100.
• The minimum qualifying marks in interview will not be less than 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates).


IMPORTANT NOTE: For preparing Final Merit List, the weightage (ratio) of Online Main Exam and Interview will be 80:20 respectively.
