Indian Navy SSR (10+2) Medical Assistant Recruitment 2024 - Everything Explained

Indian Navy has released notification for inviting applications from "Unmarried Male Candidates" for Enrollment as "Sailors" for Senior Secondary Recruits in Medical Branch as Medical Assistants for 02/2024 Batch Course Commencing from November 2024.

Eligibility:
1. Age:
Born between 01/11/2003 and 30/04/2007
2. Qualification: 10+2/Intermediate passed in Science (PCB) stream, with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks (40% in each subject).

Salary:
Pay level: level-3 (₹21,700 - 69,100)
Grade Pay: 2000
Basic Pay: ₹21,700
Dearness Allowance (DA): 50%
Marine Service Pay (MSP): ₹5400 + DA (50%)
Travelling Allowance: ₹3600 + DA (50%)
Gross Salary (excluding HRA): ₹46,050 approx.
Net in-hand salary (excluding HRA): ₹41,092 approx.
(HRA of 30% will be given only in case quarters are not available)

Note: During initial training (3 -6 months), you will not get full salary. Instead, you will get a stipend of ₹14,600 per month.

Insurance: Insurance Cover (on contribution) of ₹75 lakhs for sailors is applicable.

Training:
Initial Basic training for the course will commence from November 2024 at INS Chilka, Odisha, followed by Professional Training.


Job Profile of Sailor/Seamen-II (Medical Assistant):
The key responsibilities of a Sailor/Seamen-I (Medical Assistant) include:
1. Assisting doctors in Hospitals, ships and submarines in the Indian Navy.
2. Health check-ups of all sailors and officers in the Indian Navy.
3. Maintaining medical records.
4. Collection of samples and handling reports.
5. Checking and verification of medical claims.
6. Distribution of medicines and other health kits.
7. Any other duties assigned by senior officers or doctors.


Promotion:
Promotion of a Sailor/Seamen-II (Medical Assistant) in Indian Navy takes place in following order:
1. Sailor/Seamen-II: pay level 3 (2000 GP) (initial joining)
2. Sailor/Seamen-I: pay level 4 (2400 GP)
3. Leading Seamen: pay level 5 (2800 GP)
4. Petty Officer: pay level 5A (3400 GP)
5. Chief Petty Officer: pay level 6 (4200 GP)
6. Master Petty Officer-II: pay level 7 (4600 GP)
7. Master Petty Officer-I: pay level 8 (4800 GP) (retirement).


Selection Process:
Selection to this service will be done in five stages:
A. Shortlisting Based on 10+2 PCB Marks:
Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance (marks/percentage) in the 10+2 PCB examination (it will be done state-wise).

B. Physical Fitness Test (PFT):
Shortlisted candidates must pass a physical fitness test, which includes:
1. Running: 1.6 km run within 6 minutes 30 seconds
2. Squats (Uthak Baithak): 20
3. Pushups: 15
4. Bent Knee Sit-ups: 15

C. Written Exam:
Candidates who pass the PFT will sit for a written exam.
It will contain questions from:
1. English: 25 questions
2. Science (10+2 level): 25 questions
3. Biology (10+2 level): 25 questions
4. General Awareness/Reasoning: 25 questions
Total: 100 questions (100 marks)
Total Time: 1 hour (60 minutes).


D. Document Verification:
After the written exam, candidates must provide the necessary documents for verification.

E. Detailed Medical Examination (DME):
Candidates who pass the document verification will undergo a medical examination. In this stage, your overall medical fitness will be checked.
To qualify this stage, you should have:
1. Height: 157 cms
2. Weight: 18 to 21 BMI
3. Chest: 80-85 cms, with 5 cm expansion
4. You should have all organs in a good state.
5. Be free of any chronic disease
6. Have sound Ears and Eyes.
7. Uncorrected vision should not be more than 6/12, 6/12 and with correction (glasses) it should be 6/6, 6/6.
8. Good dental condition
9. Normal Blood Pressure
10. Normal Glucose levels (not diabetic)
11. Normal Heart Rate
12. And there should be no any type of physical deformity like knock knees, flat foot, etc.

NOTE: After qualifying all these stages, you will be selected into the service based on the merit list prepared by marks scored in the Written Test.
