SSC MTS & Havaldar 2024 Notification Released - What is SSC MTS Exam - How to Apply - Everything Explained


Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organisation under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). Every year, it conducts various examinations for appointment of staffs and officers in various government departments/organisations.

One of the most popular exams conducted by SSC is Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) and Havaldar recruitment examination. It recruits supporting staffs for various offices of the central government, and Havaldars in Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

Here in this article, I will clear all your doubts regarding the SSC MTS 2024 examination.


Important dates of SSC MTS 2024

Application Begins: 27th June 2024
Application Ends: 31st July 2024
Exam Date: Last Week of October 2024.

Form Fees: ₹100 for General/EWS/OBC, and, ₹0 for SC/ST/PH/Female candidates.

Tentative vacancies in MTS 2024:
This time, SSC has released a very good number of vacancies:
MTS: 4887
CBN and CBIC Havaldar: 3439
Total: 8326+ vacancy!

This may even increase/decrease in future. So it's not final, but tentative vacancy.


Basic eligibility for SSC MTS examination:

1. Nationality:

A candidate must be either:
a. A citizen of India, or,
b. A subject of Nepal, or,
c. A subject of Bhutan, or,
d. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Note: A candidate belonging to categories b, c and d above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.


2. Age limit (as on 01-08-2024):

• For MTS: 18-25 years
(i.e. candidates born not before 02.08.1999 and not later than 01.08.2006)

• For Havaldar: 18-27 years
(i.e. candidates born not before 02.08.1997 and not later than 01.08.2006).

Note: OBC candidates get an upper age relaxation of 3 years.

Note: SC/ST candidates get an upper age relaxation of 5 years.

Note: Physically Handicapped (Unreserved/EWS) get get an upper age relaxation of 10 years.

Note: Physically Handicapped (OBC) get an upper age relaxation of 13 years.

Note: Physically Handicapped (SC/ST) get an upper age relaxation of 15 years.


3. Educational qualification:

Matriculation passed from any recognised board (regular or distance - both are eligible)

Note: Your final result must come before 1st August 2024, otherwise you're ineligible.


SSC MTS 2024 Exam Pattern:

For the post of MTS (Multi Tasking Staff), there will be only one Computer Based Examination (CBE).
But for the post of Havaldar (in CBN and CBIC), the CBE will be the same, but it will be followed by Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

• Computer Based Examination (CBE):

CBE will be taken in two sessions of 45 minutes each:

a. Session-1: Contains subjects of Mathematical Ability and Reasoning Ability (20 questions from each subject).
Total questions: 40 (Objective type)
Total marks: 3x40 = 120
Time: 45 minutes.
Negative Marking: No negative marking in this session.

b. Session-2: Contains subjects of English Language and General Awareness (25 questions from each subject).
Total questions: 50 (Objective type)
Total marks: 3x50 = 150
Time: 45 minutes.
Negative Marking: -1/3rd (-1 for each wrong answer).

Total Marks (for merit): 270

After completion of 45 minutes of Session-1, Session-2 will automatically start. And after completion of the Session-2, the examination will end.


• Physical Standard Test (PST): Qualifying in nature.
You need to satisfy these minimum criteria:

Male: 157.5 cm height and 81 cm chest (fully expanded, with minimum expansion of 5 cm).

Female: 152 cm height and 48 kg minimum weight.

Note: In case of Males, height is relaxable by 5 cm in the case of Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas and members of Schedule Tribes)

Note: In case of Females, height is relaxable by 2.5 cm in the case of Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas and members of Schedule Tribes) and weight is relaxable by 2 kgs in this case.


• Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Qualifying in nature.
You need to satisfy these minimum criteria:

Male candidates: Walking 1600 metres in 15 minutes.

Female candidates: Walking 1 kilometre in 20 minutes.

Note: PET/ PST will be conducted by CBIC/CBN at various centres finalized by them. The candidates may be called for PET/PST to any centre across the country.


How to apply for SSC MTS 2024?
Follow these eight simple steps:

1. One-Time Registration: Register yourself on SSC website (ssc.gov.in), and generate registration number and password. If you have done it before, then ignore this step.

2. Log in to your SSC account, with that registration number and password.

3. In the Live Application Section, you will find the option of Multi Tasking Staff (MTS), click on Apply.

4. Now fill all the personal and academic details, choose your centre preferences, and zone preferences.

5. For uploading photos, you'll have to capture live photo of yourself. For this purpose, you have to install "MySSC" app from Google PlayStore, and login with the same registration number and password.

6. Once you capture your live photograph, return to the SSC website, upload your signature, and proceed.

7. Preview all your details, and once you have verified, click on submit.

8. Now pay the ₹100 fees (if you are UR/OBC/EWS male candidate), and your application is complete.
