IBPS PO 2024 - Important Dates - Job Profile - Eligibility - Salary - Promotion - Exam Pattern - All Explained

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released notification for recruitment of Probationary Officers (PO) for year 2024.
Probationary Officers are entry level officers in banking management, and is one of the dream jobs of every aspirant.
Here in this video, I have explained in brief about all the details of IBPS PO 2024 vacancy, along with the Job Profile, Salary and Promotion of IBPS PO.

Important Dates:
Application Begins: 01/08/2024
Application Ends: 21/08/2024
Admit Card (Prelims) Available: October 1st week
Exam Date (Prelims): October (19/10/2024 and 20/10/2024).
Prelims Result: November 1st week.
Admit Card (Mains) Available: November 3rd week.
Exam Date (Mains): November (30/11/2024)
Mains Result: December 2024
Interview: January/February 2025
Provisional Allotment: April 2025.

Application Fees:
General/OBC/EWS: ₹850 (including GST)
SC/ST/PwBD: ₹175 (including GST)


Vacancies:
This year a total of 4455 vacancies have been advertised, which are as follows:

1. Punjab National Bank: 200 vacancies
(UR: 81, EWS: 20, OBC: 54, SC: 30, ST: 15)

2. Canara Bank: 750 vacancies
(UR: 380, EWS: 75, OBC: 160, SC: 90, ST: 45)

3. Punjab and Sindh Bank: 360 vacancies
(UR: 124, EWS: 30, OBC: 109, SC: 63, ST: 34)

4. Bank of India: 885 vacancies
(UR: 361, EWS: 88, OBC: 238, SC: 132, ST: 66)

5. Central Bank of India: 2000 vacancies
(UR: 810, EWS: 200, OBC: 540, SC: 300, ST: 150)

6. Indian Overseas Bank: 260 vacancies
(UR: 90, EWS: 22, OBC: 84, SC: 42, ST: 22)

Total vacancies: 4455 vacancies
(UR: 1846, EWS: 435, OBC: 1185, SC: 657, ST: 332)


Educational Qualification (as on 21/08/2024):
Graduate from any UGC recognised university, as on the day of registration.

Note: The candidate must possess valid Mark-sheet / Degree Certificate that he/she is a graduate on the day he/she registers and indicate the percentage of marks obtained in Graduation while registering online.


Age Limit (as on 01/08/2024):
Minimum: 20 years
Maximum: 30 years

Age relaxation in upper age limit will be given to:
1. OBC: 3 years.
2. SC/ST: 5 years.
3. Physically Handicapped: 10 years.
4. Ex-servicemen: 5 years.
5. Persons affected by 1984 riots: 5 years.


Job Profile of a Bank PO:

1. A Bank PO has to work as a Public Relations Officer, handle customer complaints and address various customer related issues.
2. It also includes managerial work such as supervising the employees under the Clerical cadre.
3. Managing cash flow, loans, mortgages and finances.
4. Take care of loan-related documents as and when required.
5. Issuing Chequebooks, ATM cards, and Demand Drafts, checking for discrepancies in the accounts, etc.
6. Ensuring completion of his branch's weekly targets (like adding new customers, selling policies, mutual funds, credit cards, insurance, etc)


Salary:
Pay Band: 36000-1490/7-46430-1740/2-49910-1990/7-63840
Basic Pay: ₹36,000
After adding Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), Learning Allowance, Special Allowance, etc, Gross salary becomes ₹62,000 approx.
Net (in-hand) salary after deduction of Contributory Pension, Medical, etc, is ₹55,000 approx.


Probation period:
Probation period of a Bank PO is of 2 years, and after its completion, they are confirmed in the service.
After confirmation, they are posted as "Assistant Branch Manager".


Is there any bond in IBPS PO?
If you leave within the Probation Period (2 years/3 years, depending on your bank), then you'll have to pay a fine of ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000 (depending on your bank) + 1 month gross salary (if notice period not served).


Career Progression:
In Bank, there are different levels of management:
1. Junior Management
2. Middle Management
3. Senior Management
4. Top Management
A Bank PO is in the Junior Management Scale. After working for a minimum of 2 years at a particular level, you're eligible for departmental tests and interview for promotion to the senior level.
After 2 years of joining the bank, PO gets confirmed as "Assistant Branch Manager", and now his promotion takes place in the following order:

1. Assistant Branch Manager.
2. Branch Manager.
3. Senior Branch Manager.
4. Chief Manager.
5. Assistant General Manager.
6. Deputy General Manager.
7. General Manager.
8. Chief General Manager.
9. Deputy Managing Director.
10. Managing Director.
11. Chairman.



Exam Pattern:
There are three levels of examination: Preliminary, Mains and Interview.
Preliminary Exam (Prelims) is only for shortlisting candidates for Mains Exam.
Mains Exam is for both Shortlisting for Interview and making final merit list for service allotment.

A. Preliminary Examination:
• Objective Paper (Computer Based):
1. English Language:
30 questions - 30 marks - 20 minutes sectional time.
2. Quantitative Aptitude: 35 questions - 35 marks - 20 minutes sectional time.
3. Reasoning Ability: 35 questions - 35 marks - 20 minutes sectional time.

Total: 100 questions - 100 marks - 60 minutes.
Negative marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks).

B. Mains Examination:
• Objective Paper (Computer Based):
1. Reasoning & Computer Aptitude:
45 questions - 60 marks - 60 minutes.
2. General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness: 40 questions - 40 marks - 35 minutes.
3. English Language: 35 questions - 40 marks - 40 minutes.
4. Data Analysis & Interpretation: 35 questions - 60 marks - 45 minutes.
TOTAL: 155 questions - 200 marks - 150 minutes (3 hours).
Negative marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks).

• Descriptive Paper: English Language (Letter Writing & Essay) - 2 questions - 25 marks - 30 minutes.

• Total Marks in Mains: 225 marks.

C. Interview:
The total marks allotted for the Interview are 100.
The minimum qualifying marks in interview will not be less than 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates).


IMPORTANT NOTE: For preparing Final Merit List, the weightage (ratio) of Online Main Exam and Interview will be 80:20 respectively.
