SSC JHT (Junior Hindi Translators) 2024 - Job Profile - Promotion - Salary - Eligibility - Age - Exam Pattern - All Explained

Every government department needs a translator who can translate Hindi documents to English and vice-versa. It ensures the increase in effectiveness of communication between the departments, in diplomatic talks, and also between government and public.
So to recruit these translators, every year Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts examination for recruitment of Junior Hindi Translators (SSC JHT exam).

Here in this blog, I have discussed all the necessary details of SSC JHT/SHT 2024 recruitment examination in brief.

Important Dates:

Form Filling Starts: 2nd August 2024
Form Filling Ends: 25th August 2024 (till 11 PM)
Last date to pay fees: 26th August 2024 (till 11 PM)
Window for "Application Form Correction": 4th September to 5th September 2024 (till 11 PM).
Tentative Date of Computer Based Examination: October Last/Early November 2024.

Application Fees:
General/EWS/OBC: ₹100
SC/ST/Female/ESM/PwBD: ₹0 (Nil)

Vacancies:
This year there are about "312 vacancies" for JHTs/JTOs/JTs and SHTs/STOs/STs in various ministries and departments.
This may even increase/decrease in future. So it's not final, but "tentative vacancy".

Posts and Salary:
1. Junior Translation Officer (JTO) in Central Secretariat Official Language Service (CSOLS): Level-6 salary (9300-34800, 4200 Grade Pay).
2. Junior Translation Officer (JTO) in Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ): Level-6 salary (9300-34800, 4200 Grade Pay).
3. Junior Hindi Translator (JHT)/ Junior Translation Officer(JTO)/Junior Translator (JT) in various Central Government Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations: Level-6 salary (9300-34800, 4200 Grade Pay).
4. Senior Hindi Translator (SHT)/Senior Translator (ST) in various Central Government Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations: Level-7 salary (9300-34800, 4200 Grade Pay).


Job Profile of JHT/JTO:
1. Translating and typing documents in Hindi.
2. Implementing language policies in different departments.
3. Organizing meetings and workshops on the Hindi language.
4. Maintaining records of all documents and files in the department.
5. Managing various office meetings and ensuring the use and promotion of Hindi.
6. Performing other related tasks as assigned by superior authority.


Career Progression of JHT/JTO:

1. After 2 years of joining, and completing probation period, you become eligible for promotion from Junior Translator to Senior Translator (level-7 salary: 9300-34800, 4600 GP). But this may take more time, depending on number of available vacancies and seniority order.

2. After working as Senior Translator for 3 years, you become eligible for promotion from Senior Translator to Assistant Director (level-10 salary: 15600-39100, 5400 GP). But this may take much more time, depending on number of available vacancies and seniority order.

3. After working for minimum 5 years as Assistant Director, you become eligible for promotion from Assistant Director to Deputy Director (level-11 salary: 15600-39100, 6600 GP). But this may take more time, depending on number of available vacancies and seniority order.

4. After working for minimum 5 years as Deputy Director, you become eligible for promotion from Deputy Director to Joint Director (level-12 salary: 15600-39100, 7600 GP). But this may take more time, depending on number of available vacancies and seniority order.

5. After working for minimum 5 years as Joint Director, you become eligible for promotion from Joint Director to Director of Official Language (level-13 salary: 15600-39100, 8700 GP). But this may take much more time, depending on number of available vacancies and seniority order.


Educational Qualification (as on 25.08.2024):

1. Master's degree of a recognized University in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level
Or;
Master's degree of a recognized University in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level
Or;
Master's degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of a examination at the degree level
Or;
Master's degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level
Or;
Master's Degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as a medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level

AND;

2. Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa,
Or;
Two years experience (for JHT)/Three years experience (for SHT) of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Office, including Government of India Undertaking.


Age limit (as on 01.08.2024):
Minimum Age: 18 years
Maximum Age: 30 years.

Age relaxation in upper age limit:
1. 3 years for OBC candidates.
2. 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
3. 10 years for Physically Handicapped (Unreserved/EWS).
4. 13 years for Physically Handicapped (OBC).
5. 15 years for Physically Handicapped (SC/ST).
6. For Ex-servicemen: 03 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on closing date of receipt of online application.


Selection Process:
There will be two stages of examination:
1. Paper-1 (1st stage) - Objective type.
2. Paper-2 (2nd stage) - Descriptive type.

Exam Pattern of Paper-1:
Computer Based Test (Objective), and contains questions from:
1. General English: 100 questions (of 100 marks)
2. General Hindi: 100 questions (of 100 marks)
Total Questions: 200 questions (of 200 marks).
Total time: 120 minutes (2 hours).
Negative marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks).

On the basis of marks scored in Paper-1 (Stage-1), candidates will be shortlisted for Paper-2 (Stage-2).

Exam Pattern of Paper-2:
Descriptive (Pen and Paper), and contains questions on "Translation" and "Essay Writing".
Total Marks: 200 marks
Total time: 120 minutes (2 hours).

Final selection and service allotment will be done on the basis of merit list prepared by marks scored in both Paper-1 and Paper-2.


How to apply for SSC JHT 2024?

Follow these eight simple steps:
1. One-Time Registration: Register yourself on SSC website (ssc.gov.in), and generate registration number and password. If you have done it before, then ignore this step.

2. Log in to your SSC account, with that registration number and password.

3. In the Live Application Section, you will find the option of Junior Hindi Translator (JHT), click on Apply.

4. Now fill all the personal and academic details, choose your centre preferences, etc.

5. For uploading photos, you'll have to capture live photo of yourself. For this purpose, you have to install "MySSC" app from Google PlayStore, and login with the same registration number and password.

6. Once you capture your live photograph, return to the SSC website, upload your signature, and proceed.

7. Preview all your details, and once you have verified, click on submit.

8. Now pay the ₹100 fees (if you are UR/OBC/EWS male candidate), and your application is complete.
