The High Court of Punjab and Haryana has released a recruitment notification for filling the vacant positions of Peons in the court premises.
Here in this blog, I have briefly explained all the necessary details related to this recruitment examination.
Vacancies:
A total of 300 vacancies have been notified, which is distributed as follows:
• General/Unreserved: 243
• SC/ST/BC: 30
• Ex-servicemen: 15
• Physically Handicapped: 12
• Physically Handicapped vacancies are further distributed as:
Lower Limb Disability: 3
Upper Limb Disability: 3
Impaired Hearing: 2
Low Vision: 2
Intellectually Disabled/Mild IQ: 2
Note: Candidates from states other than Punjab, Haryana and UT of Chandigarh, will not get benefit of reservation, and will be considered as General/Unreserved candidate.
Important Dates:
Application Begins: 26/08/2024
Application Ends: 20/09/2024 (till 23:59)
Last date to pay fees: 20/09/2024 (till 23:59)
Application Fees:
For General/Other State: ₹700
For SC/ST/BC of Punjab/Haryana/Chandigarh: ₹600
Ex-servicemen: ₹600
Physically Handicapped: ₹600
Educational Qualification (as on 20/09/2024):
Minimum: passed Middle School (8th Standard).
Maximum: passed Intermediate (10+2) from a recognised board.
IMPORTANT: Candidates having educational qualifications higher than 10+2/Intermediate are strictly not eligible to apply.
Age limit (as on 20/09/2024):
Minimum: 18 years
Maximum: 35 years
Upper Age limit shall be relaxed as follows:
(a) Physically Handicapped: by 10 years.
(b) Ex-servicemen: by number of years equal to his defence service plus 3 years.
Salary:
Pay level: (₹18000-56900, 1800 Grade Pay)
Basic Pay: ₹18,000
Dearness Allowance (DA): 50%
Gross Salary: ₹35,100 approx.
In-hand salary: ₹31,245 approx
Job Profile of High Court Peon:
1. To do all the official matters relating to the court.
2. To assist all the court officials so that a smooth working is ensured.
3. To call the cases and put up the case files.
4. To clean/organise the court (except brooming), serve water and tea to the officials and open and close the court as per the schedule.
5. To do any other work/responsibility given by senior officials.
6. Candidates can also be deputed to the residence of the Hon’ble Judges
and the Registrars of the High Court, where they will attend to all household chores/ duties including cooking,
washing, cleaning and other household duties assigned to them from time to time in a professional and dedicated manner and even at odd hours.
Promotion:
Promotion is very slow in this service. You might get 1-2 promotions in your entire career.
The promotions of a peon are in the following order:
1. Daftri (level-2: 5910-20200, 1900 GP)
After 5-7 years, you're promoted on the basis of seniority.
2. Restorers/Supervisors (level-4: 5910-20200, 2400 GP)
After another 3-5 years of working as Daftri, and acquiring at least Matriculation (for 50% seats) or at least Graduation (for 50% seats), you're eligible for promotion on the basis of seniority-cum-merit.
3. Clerk-cum-Computer Assistant (level-5A: 10300-34800, 3200 GP)
After 4 years (if you're a Graduate)/7 years (if you're 10th pass) of working as Supervisors/Restorers, you're eligible for promotion on basis of seniority, OR;
After 2 years (if you're a Graduate)/5 years (if you're 10th pass) of working as Supervisors/Restorers, you're eligible for "Departmental Competitive Exam" and get promotion.
• NOTE: Provided that the eligible Supervisors/Restorers shall have to
undergo the practical test of having basic knowledge of computer
including word processing at the speed of 30 w.p.m. and spread
sheets.
4. Junior Assistant (level-5B: 10300-34800, 3600 GP)
After a minimum of 5 years of working as a Clerk, only those who are Graduates, will get promotion on the basis of seniority-cum-merit.
Selection Process:
The selection for this post will be made on the basis of two tests:
A. Written Test
B. Physical Endurance Test
A. Written Test
It will contain 50 MCQ questions from:
1. General Awareness (including GK and Current Affairs): 35 questions (tentative)
2. Numerical Ability: 15 questions (tentative)
• TOTAL: 50 MCQs
• Total Time: 90 minutes
• No any Negative Marking.
B. Physical Endurance Test
• After Written Test, candidates equal to 10 times the vacancy, will be called for Physical Endurance Test (Physically Handicapped are exempted).
• Qualifying in Nature.
• Will involve the following activities:
1. Race: only one chance to be given
For male: 800 metres in 270 seconds
For female: 800 metres in 290 seconds.
2. Long Jump: to be qualified in three chances.
For male: 2.95 metres
For female: 1.74 metres.
3. High Jump: to be qualified in three chances.
For male: 1.14 metres
For female: 0.90 metres.
After qualifying the Physical Endurance Test, you'll be selected in the service on the basis of merit prepared from the marks of Written Test.
