But, what are the works of these forces?

1. Border Security Force (BSF):
a. Guarding the border, particularly India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
b. Preventing trans-border crimes such as smuggling and unauthorised entry into or exit from the territory of India.

2. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF):
Providing security to the strategic establishment, including the Department of Space, the Department of Atomic Energy, the Airports, the Delhi Metro, the ports, the historical monuments and the basic areas of the Indian economy such as petroleum and natural gas, electricity, coal, steel and mining.

3. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF):
a. Assisting the States and Union Territories in police operations to maintain law and order.
b. Anti-Naxalite operations.
c. Providing Internal Security.
d. Working along with Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu & Kashmir for maintaining border security, counter-insurgency, and law and order in Kashmir.

4. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB):
a. Guarding India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
b. Preventing trans-border crimes such as smuggling and unauthorised entry into or exit from the territory of India.

5. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP):
a. Guarding India's borders with Tibet Autonomous Region (in India's borders in Ladakh, Himachal and Uttarakhand).
b. Preventing trans-border crimes such as smuggling and unauthorised entry into or exit from the territory of India.

6. Assam Rifles (AR):

b. Works along with Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu & Kashmir for maintaining border security, counter-insurgency, and law and order in Kashmir.
c. Guards India's borders with Mayanmar (Indo-Mayanmar Border).
d. Prevents trans-border crimes such as smuggling and unauthorised entry into or exit from the territory of India.

• NOTE:
(i) This is the only Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), which is headed by Indian Army. An Army Officer of the rank of Lt. General is the head of Assam Rifles.
{where as, other CAPF forces like BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, and CRPF is headed by an IPS officer of DG rank... And NCB is headed by IRS (C&CE) officer of DG rank}
(ii) Constables in Assam Rifles are called "Rifleman", and they get all the training similar to an Army Jawan.

7. Secretariat Security Force (SSF):
a. Guarding and providing security to Central Secretariat buildings, parliament, and other important administrative establishments of the Govt of India.
b. Ensuring Vehicular Security (security of government vehicles, ensuring that they are not tampered with or misused).
c. Providing security to residence of high ranking government officials, ministers, and VIPs.

But in the past few years, most of the security duties have been taken over by CISF, and strength (numbers) of SSF personnel is decreasing day by day.
So basically it's a dying force. So, I would recommend you to put it in last preference.

8. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB):
a. Preventing illegal trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
b. Collecting and analysing information relating to drug trafficking.
c. Undertaking anti-narcotics operations.
d. Coordinating with state and central law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking.

So, now when you know the work of these forces, you can easily give your own preferences order in the application form.
