BANK CLERK - Job Profile - Salary - Details of IBPS Clerk 2024 Exam - Notification - Eligibility - Exam Pattern - Everything Explained

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts various examinations every year for selecting employees in public sector banks. One of those examinations is the much-awaited IBPS Clerk recruitment.

This year, IBPS has released notification for IBPS Clerk 2024 recruitment. The application process has started since 1st July, and will end on 21st July 2024. A total of 6128 vacancies has been advertised in different banks.

Here in this blog, I will give you detailed information about this recruitment examination.

What is a bank clerk?

Whenever you visit a bank, either to deposit/withdraw money, or to open an account, or for loan enquiry, or any other work, you first go to cash counter/relationship counter. The employee sitting at that counter is actually a bank clerk!

So you now know that, "An employee of a bank who deals with customers, receives and pays out money, keeps records, etc. is a Bank Clerk".
A bank clerk is the first person to contact in a bank. He is the primary point of contact for the customers, and keeps record of all the ongoing banking transactions and answers all the enquiries.

Work profile of a bank clerk:

1. Managing cash flow of the bank, by receiving cash (deposit) or paying out cash (withdrawal) to the customers.

2. Ensuring the compliance of KYC (Know Your Customer) for all new account holders in the Bank.

3. Opening of new Savings/Current/Loan Accounts, and filling loan information.

4. Monitoring Non Performing Assets (NPA).

5. Answering queries of customers, by working as a Single Window Operator for the convenience of customers.

6. Suggesting other products/services of banks to customers (like Insurance, Fixed Deposits, Mutual Funds, Debit Cards, Credit Cards, etc.)

7. Completing any other responsibility/work assigned by the branch manager.


Bank Clerk's Salary:

Basic Pay of IBPS Clerk is ₹19,900. Now, some extra benefits are added to this Basic Pay, like Dearness Allowance (DA, with current rate of 50%), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Conveyance Allowance, etc. After adding all these extra benefits, the Gross Salary becomes ₹32000 to ₹36000 approximately (depending on your location of posting). And after deduction of Contributory Pension, Medical, Professional Tax, etc., you get In-hand salary of ₹28000 to ₹32000 approximately.



How to become a Bank Clerk?

Every year IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) conducts an All-India level competitive recruitment examination, called IBPS Clerk Recruitment Exam.
It has two stages: Prelims and Mains.
Both exams are conducted in Online-mode (Computer Based Examination).
Prelims is for shortlisting candidates for Mains level. And Mains level is for preparation of final merit (for selecting candidates).
After Mains result is declared, LPT (Language Proficiency Test) is conducted to test your knowledge of local language of state (which you opted in your online application form). It is qualifying in nature, but passing it is mandatory for appointment.


Eligibility Criteria for IBPS Clerk:

Educational Qualification: Graduation from any UGC recognised university + Certificate/Diploma in Computer/IT.

Note:
1. Your Graduation result must be declared before the closing date of the application form.

2. It doesn't matter whether you have done your graduation in regular mode or distance mode (like IGNOU), you just have to do it from a UGC recognised university.

3. If you have CCC or O-level certificate from NIELIT, or DCA or ADCA from any institute, you can apply. Just remember, the minimum duration of the certificate/diploma course should be 3 months.


Age limit: For General/EWS candidates, it's 20 years (minimum) to 28 years (maximum).

Note:
1. In the case of OBC, you get a relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit.
2. In the case of SC/ST, you get a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.
3. In the case of Physically Handicapped, you get a relaxation of 10 years in the upper age limit.


Exam Pattern:

As discussed above, IBPS Clerk Exam has two stages: Prelims and Mains.

Prelims exam has 30 questions from English, 35 questions from Maths and 35 questions from Reasoning.
It means a total of 100 questions will be asked in Prelims.
Each subject/section will have 20 minutes time. It means, total duration is 60 minutes.
For each correct answer, you will get 1 marks, and for incorrect, there is a negative marking of -0.25 marks.

Mains exam has four sections:
1. General Awareness: 50 questions (50 marks) and 35 minutes
2. English: 40 questions (40 marks) and 35 minutes.
3. Reasoning and Computer: 50 questions (60 marks) and 45 minutes.
4. Maths: 50 questions (50 marks) and 45 minutes.
Total: 190 questions (200 marks) and 160 minutes.
Negative marking: one-fourth (-1/4)

Application Begins: 1st July 2024
Application Ends: 21st July 2024
Prelims Exam Date: 3rd week of August 2024
Mains Exam Date: 2nd week of October 2024
Provisional Allotment: April 2025

1. For General/OBC/EWS: ₹850 /- (inclusive of GST)
2. For SC/ST/PwBD/ESM: ₹175 /- (inclusive of GST).
