About BIS:
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is an Autonomous Body, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Department of Consumer Affairs), Government of India.
It is responsible for activities in the field of Standardization, Product and System Certification, Hallmarking of Gold/Silver Jewellery, Laboratory Testing, etc. in the country.

And since, it is autonomous, its employees are "NOT Central Government employees".

Educational Qualification (as on 30/09/2024):
1. Assistant Director (Administration & Finance):

(i) Chartered Accountant/Cost and works Accountant/subordinate accounts service Accountant/Master of Business Administration (with Finance specialization) from a recognized university; AND,
(ii) Three years Experience in the relevant field in Central/State/Union Territory Government or Statutory/Autonomous Body/Public Sector Undertaking/reputed Government Agency.

2. Assistant Director (Marketing & Consumer Affairs):
(i) MBA (Marketing) or Master‘s Degree/PG Diploma in Mass Communication or Master‘s Degree/PG Diploma in Social Work from a recognized University/Institution; AND,
(ii) Five years Experience in the field of Marketing/Mass Communication/Social Work in Central/State/Union Territory Government or Statutory/Autonomous Body/Public Sector Undertaking/and reputed Government Agency.

3. Assistant Director (Hindi):
(i) Master's/PG Degree in Hindi with English as a subject at the Degree level; or, Master's/PG Degree in English with Hindi as a subject at the Degree level; or, Master's/PG Degree in any subject with Hindi and English as subjects at the Degree level.
(ii) Five years' experience of terminological work in Hindi and/or translation work from English to Hindi or vice-versa in Central/State/Union Territory Government or Statutory/Autonomous Body/Public Sector Undertaking/and reputed Government Agency.

4. Personal Assistant:
(i) Degree from any recognised university
(ii) Proficient in Computer Operations
(iii) 100 WPM Hindi/English Stenography.

5. Assistant Section Officer:
(i) Degree from any recognised university
(ii) Proficient in Computer Operations

6. Assistant (Computer Aided Design):
(i) Bachelor Degree in Science; or, Diploma in Engineering in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical.
(ii) Five years experience in Auto CAD and working knowledge of typography/draftsmanship in the relevant discipline.

7. Technical Assistant (Mechanical):
Three years diploma in Mechanical with minimum 60% marks (50% marks for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).

8. Technical Assistant (Chemical):
Bachelor’s Degree in Science (with Chemistry as one of the main subjects) with minimum 60% marks (50% marks for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).

9. Technical Assistant (Microbiology):
Bachelor’s Degree in Science (with Microbiology as one of the main subjects) with minimum 60% marks (50% marks for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).

10. Senior Secretariat Assistant:
(i) Degree from any recognised university
(ii) Proficient in Computer Operations

11. Stenographer:
(i) Degree from any recognised university
(ii) Proficient in Computer Operations
(iii) 80 WPM Hindi/English Stenography.

12. Junior Secretariat Assistant:
(i) Degree from any recognised university
(ii) Proficient in Computer Operations
(iii) 35 WPM English or 30 WPM Hindi Typing.

13. Senior Technician:
(i) Matric or its equivalent;
(ii) Industrial Training Institute Certificate in any of the following trades:
(a) Electrician; (b) Fitter; (c) Carpenter; (d) Plumber; (e) Wireman (f) Welder
(iii) Two years’ practical experience in the respective trade after having obtained the Industrial Training Institute Certificate or National Apprenticeship Certificate in the relevant trade.

14. Technician:
(i) Matric or its equivalent
(ii) Industrial Training Institute certificate in any of the following trades:
(a) Electrician; (b) Wireman; and
(iii) National Apprenticeship Certificate in the relevant trade.


Age Limit (as on 30/09/2024):
Minimum Age: NA
Maximum Age: 35 Years for Group A Post
Maximum Age: 30 Years for Group B Post
Maximum Age: 27 Years for Group C Post

Age relaxation in the upper age limit will be given as follows:
1. SC/ST: 5 years
2. OBC-NCL: 3 years
3. PwBD (UR/EWS): 10 years
4. PwBD (OBC): 13 years
5. PwBD (SC/ ST): 15 years
6. EX-SERVICEMEN:
(i) Group A & B posts - Ex-Servicemen Commissioned Officers including ECOs/SSCOs: 05 years
(ii) Group C posts - Ex-Servicemen (UR/EWS): 03 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on closing date of receipt of online application.

SELECTION PROCESS of Group A posts:
Selection to Group A posts will be done in two stages:
1. Online Test (CBT, conducted by IBPS).
2. Interview

• In the Online Test, questions will be asked from:
a. General Intelligence & Reasoning: 40 questions - 40 marks - 30 minutes
b. English Language: 40 questions - 40 marks - 30 minutes
c. Quantitative Aptitude: 20 questions - 20 marks - 20 minutes
d. Professional Knowledge: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes

TOTAL Questions: 150 questions
TOTAL Marks: 150 marks
Total Time: 120 minutes (2 hours)
Negative Marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks)

• Professional Knowledge:
(i) For Assistant Director (Finance): Domain Knowledge in Finance.
(ii) For Assistant Director (Marketing): Domain Knowledge in Public Relations/Publicity/Advertising/Journalism.
(iii) For Assistant Director (Hindi): Domain Knowledge in Hindi.


SELECTION PROCESS of posts of Assistant Section Officer, Personal Assistant, Stenographer, Senior Secretariat Assistant and Junior Secretariat Assistant:
Selection to these posts will be done in the following stages:
1. Online Test (CBT, conducted by IBPS)
2. Skill Test (Qualifying in Nature)

• In the Online Test, questions will be asked from:
a. General Intelligence & Reasoning: 50 questions - 50 marks - 35 minutes
b. General Awareness: 25 questions - 25 marks - 20 minutes
c. Quantitative Aptitude: 25 questions - 25 marks - 25 minutes
d. English Language: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes

TOTAL Questions: 150 questions
TOTAL Marks: 150 marks
Total Time: 120 minutes (2 hours)
Negative Marking: 1/4th (-0.25 marks)

• Skill Test for Personal Assistant:
(i) Computer Proficiency Test: of Level-6 NSQF (National Skill Qualification Framework) level.
(ii) Shorthand test in English/Hindi comprising dictation test at 100 WPM for seven minutes which the candidates shall be required to transcribe in 45 minutes (English dictation) and in 60 minutes (Hindi dictation).

• Skill Test for Assistant Section Officer:
(i) Computer Proficiency Test: of Level-6 NSQF (National Skill Qualification Framework) level.
(ii) Typing Test of 10 minutes at the speed of 35 WPM (English)/30 WPM (Hindi).

• Skill Test for Senior Secretariat Assistant:
(i) Word Processing Test - 2000 Key Depressions in fifteen minutes;
(ii) Test in Spread Sheets on Microsoft Excel - fifteen minutes; and
(iii) Test in Power Point (Microsoft Power Point) – fifteen minutes.

• Skill Test for Stenographer:
(i) Computer Proficiency Test: of Level-5 NSQF (National Skill Qualification Framework) level.
(ii) Shorthand test in English/Hindi comprising dictation test at 80 WPM for seven minutes which the candidates shall be required to transcribe in 50 minutes (English dictation) and in 60 minutes (Hindi dictation).

• Skill Test for Junior Secretariat Assistant:
Typing Test of 10 minutes at the speed of 35 WPM (English)/30 WPM (Hindi).


SELECTION PROCESS of posts of Technical Assistant (Laboratory), Assistant (Computer Aided Design), Senior Technician & Technician:
Selection to these posts will be done in the following stages:
1. Online Test (CBT, conducted by IBPS)
2. Practical Skill/Trade Test (Qualifying in Nature) of the relevant discipline/trade.

• In the Online Test, questions will be asked from:
a. General Intelligence & Reasoning: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes
b. English Language: 25 questions - 25 marks - 20 minutes
c. Quantitative Aptitude: 25 questions - 25 marks - 20 minutes
d. Professional Knowledge: 50 questions - 50 marks - 40 minutes

NOTE: The Final Merit List will be prepared only on the basis of marks scored in the Online Test (after qualifying the Skill Test).
