ITBP Constable (Driver) Recruitment 2024 - Eligibility - Vacancy - Skill Test - Salary - Exam Pattern

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has released a recruitment notification for filling the vacant positions of Constables (Driver) in ITBP.
The service in this post is "Temporary", but afterwards, it will become Permanent.
Here in this blog, I have briefly explained all the necessary details related to this recruitment examination.

Organisation: Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
Type: Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).
Ministry: Ministry of Home Affairs.
Department: Department of Border Management.
Trade: Driver (Heavy Vehicles)
Rank: Constable
Service: General Central Service (Non-ministerial)
Group: Group-C (Non-Gazetted)
Vacancy: 545 vacancies.
Last Date: 06/11/2024
Eligible: Only "Male Candidates".
Engagement: "Temporary Basis" (likely to be permanent later).

What is ITBP?
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is one of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), which comes under the Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). It was formed after the Indo-China war of 1962, to guard the national borders with Tibet.
It's primary task is:
1. Guarding the borders of India with Tibet Autonomous Region (borders at Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh).
2. Preventing illegal entry, trafficking/smuggling across the borders, and hence providing border security to the nation.

Organisation: Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
Formed: 1962.
Motto: शौर्य-दृढ़ता-कर्म निष्ठा (Valour-Steadfastness-Commitment)
Type: Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).
Ministry: Ministry of Home Affairs.
Department: Department of Border Management.
Borders: India's Borders with Tibet (in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh).

Vacancies:
A total of 545 vacancies have been notified, which is distributed as follows:
1. General/UR: 209
2. Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 55
3. Other Backward Castes (OBC): 164
4. Scheduled Castes (SC): 77
5. Scheduled Tribes (ST): 40

Why is it written in Notification - "on temporary basis likely to be permanent"?
Since driving a "Heavy Vehicle" is a highly skilled job, and driving it on difficult terrains like mountains near the Tibet Border (where there are sharp turns, no good roads at some places, and no visibility sometimes), requires great amount of skills and "mastery over Heavy Vehicle Driving".
So during your temporary service, if you show great skills, you'll become permanent. But, if you didn't perform well, your service will be terminated in short time.

a. Guarding and providing security to Central Secretariat buildings, parliament, and other important administrative establishments of the Govt of India.
b. Ensuring Vehicular Security (security of government vehicles, ensuring that they are not tampered with or misused).
c. Providing security to residence of high ranking government officials, ministers, and VIPs.

But in the past few years, most of the security duties have been taken over by CISF, and strength (numbers) of SSF personnel is decreasing day by day.
So basically it's a dying force. So, I would recommend you to put it in last preference.

8. Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB):
a. Preventing illegal trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
b. Collecting and analysing information relating to drug trafficking.
c. Undertaking anti-narcotics operations.
d. Coordinating with state and central law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking.

So, now when you know the work of these forces, you can easily give your own preferences order in the application form.
